The Mendocino Part-Time Faculty Association is the sole bargaining unit for Part-Time Instructors, Librarians, and Counselors at Mendocino College.  We are affiliated with the California Teachers Association/Community College Association, and the National Education Association.

Bargaining Team has Reached Tentative Agreements

Our bargaining team (Lucy Bayer, Kathryn Renderman, & Janice Timm) has now reached and signed the Tentative Agreements (TA) for changes to our current CBA.  The full changes are in the downloadable TA PDF below.  MPFA members will need to ratify these changes before May 31, 2025.

Please check your email regularly for the Elections notice.

Here's a summary of what we were able to achieve (including requested changes from the district):
  • A 2-year side letter removing the monetary cap on Office Hours (thru Spring 2027)
  • 1 year extension of the side letter Health Care Reimbursement benefit (thru Spring 2027)
  • Increase the available money for the $300 New Course Stipend (for a total of 90 instead of 60)
  • Add SDI (State Disability Insurance) to our benefits. While we pay for this benefit through a small monthly deduction, it has not been available for us before.  As PT employees we are not eligible for other types of Disability Insurance because we don't have a 12-month contract.
  • 80% of state COLA (a 2 year agreement, expiring in Spring 2027)
  • Revision of Evaluation procedures and documents to be more relevant, especially for Counselors
  • Addition of the IT trainings to the listed non-instructional rate
  • Addition of Article 17, Benefits to the "Automatic Reopeners"

JOIN MPFA NOW (via CTA)

Why Join MPFA?

We represent ALL part-time/contingent faculty, including instructors, librarians, & counselors.
  • MPFA is the only faculty group that has the right to negotiate your salary, benefits, and working conditions.
  • You benefit from the work of MPFA even if you don’t pay dues.
  • You really do not have a voice or "say" in MPFA's actions unless you are a member.
The best way to show the district that you support our bargaining efforts is to be a paid & active member of MPFA.

If you are not able to join at this time - then commit to participate fully in any and all MPFA outreach activities including meetings, surveys, and anything for part-timers that the college offers.

Our Bargaining & Negotiating strength is only as strong as our membership numbers.

WE DESERVE SALARY EQUITY

WE DESERVE PERMANENT HEALTH BENEFITS

WE HAVE EARNED PAID PREP TIME

OUR BENEFITS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE IN SUMMER -
but they are not!!!

(things like office hours and new class stipends are only available in Fall/Spring)

It’s time for YOU to step up!

*Already an MPFA member?
Consider submitting your name to serve on the Executive Board
or accept a non-elected position like Grievance Committee or Membership & Communication

Where do your dues go?

$36.01 monthly, 8 months per year (Oct-Dec & Feb-May)
  • MPFA (Local) receives $68.20
  • CTA/CCA (State) receives $149.10
  • NEA receives $70.75

NOTE: CTA (State) dues include a $20 Voluntary Dues Contribution to support CTA advocacy and the CTA Foundation for Teaching and Learning. Members not wishing to contribute may request a refund but you have to contact CTA directly. Neither the college nor MPFA can make this request for you.

MPFA (local)  pays stipends to the board and negotiating team out of our funds that derive from our dues that we receive. The president of MPFA is paid a stipend by the college not from our treasury.

We apply for grants whenever available to help offset any membership development costs our chapter incurs (things like food and prizes for meetings and gatherings and "swag" such as the sun visors).

Other yearly costs include:  secure, CTA approved elections and the web site/domain address

Look - we get it.
Not everyone thinks they are able to join up and pay dues.
Think about it this way way though:

*Bargaining on YOUR behalf is not free. Stipends for our bargaining team are paid through dues revenue.
*Bargaining is a tremendous time commitment from the team - and it is stressful!
*You are depending on others to pay for you and benefitting without contributing.

Make a commitment to participate in everything MPFA that you can -
use a sunshade - wear a pin or branded item - come to meetings
let your voice be heard and your-self be seen.
